The Buffalo Bills have been selected to be featured on “Hard Knocks†for training camp this summer. The HBO series follows a team behind the scenes, and a new rule has allowed playoff teams from the previous year to be picked.
“Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills†will premiere at 9 p.m. Aug. 5 on HBO.
Bills training camp will begin sometime in late July at St. John Fisher.
The in-season version of “Hard Knocks†will follow the NFC East: the Eagles, Commanders, Cowboys and Giants.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced the news Wednesday at the league meetings in Minnesota.
The weekly show follows storylines of players and coaches as the team looks to shape its 2025-26 roster during camp and in the preseason. Produced by NFL Films, the show gives a behind-the-scenes look at whichever team is featured throughout camp and the preseason.
The show began in 2001, first following the Baltimore Ravens the year after they won the Super Bowl. No team that the show has chronicled has gone on to make the Super Bowl the same season. However, a previous rule was that teams that did make the playoffs the previous season could avoid the show, thus shrinking the pool of likely Super Bowl contenders.
Critics and audiences have generally given “Hard Knocks†a positive reception, but the teams themselves don’t often seek out the attention.
Though some playoff teams, such as the 2001 Ravens and the 2010 Jets, opted in, almost all other playoff teams wanted to steer clear of the NFL Films cameras. Eligible non-playoff teams often campaigned behind the scenes to avoid being selected by the NFL and HBO, eager to avoid what they believed would be a distraction from their preseason work.
Last season’s “Hard Knocks†featured the Chicago Bears.
“There aren’t many shows in history that have had a successful 25-year run,†NFL Films senior executive Ross Ketover said in a statement. “We are thrilled that the partnership between NFL Films and HBO – which has captivated football fans for so long – will continue years into the future.â€
In 2021, “Hard Knocks†added an in-season team, following a franchise for as long into the year as it was playing. In 2024, there was also an offseason “Hard Knocks,†which featured the New York Giants.
