The Auburn Police Department has arrested a man for allegedly stealing a wallet from Planet Fitness and a purse from Walmart in March.
In a news release Wednesday, the department said that Travis Ryan, 36, of Clyde, was arrested Tuesday after investigations into the two theft incidents.

The first took place March 25, when a person called 911 that afternoon to report their wallet had been stolen from their locker at Planet Fitness in Auburn. As officers spoke with the victim, they found that someone was trying to use a credit card in the wallet to make a purchase at Walmart in Sennett. The victim canceled the card prior to the attempt to use it, the department said.
Then, on March 28, another victim called 911 to say her purse had been stolen at the same Walmart. She said a man took it from a shopping cart after distracting her, the department said. The man attempted to leave, and threw the purse down after the victim yelled for help.Â
As a result of its investigations, the department charged Ryan with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree attempted identity theft for the Planet Fitness theft, and fourth-degree grand larceny for the Walmart theft. He was arrested at the Cayuga County Jail, where he was already incarcerated on an unrelated charge. He was given appearance tickets for the theft charges.
