Auburn Community Hospital physicians, administrators, staff and patients cut the ribbon on the new Women’s Imaging Suite there Wednesday afternoon.
The provides a full range of imaging procedures focused on the unique health needs of women, including digital mammography, ultrasound and bone density studies.
Among the speakers Wednesday was Kelly Mosher, an interventional radiological technologist and former mammographer who is also a patient at the hospital.Â
“Auburn Community Hospital has done it again by keeping their pulse on what our community needs by building this beautiful Women's Health center. I'm so proud to be an employee here," she said. "It is so nice to have one-stop shopping, have your mammogram, and get quick results. I've worked at many different hospitals. This is the nicest women's center."
Joining Mosher were hospital President and CEO Scott Berlucchi, Board of Trustees Chairman Tony Franceschelli, Radiology Department Chairman Dr. Jubin Jacob and more.Â
What separates the new suite's GE Pristina full-field digital mammography systems is its patient-centered design, clarity of image and low patient radiation dose, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jamie Syrett said.
“Every little detail is looked at. We are focused on getting patients in, providing an accurate and timely diagnosis, and giving people the treatment that they require right here in Auburn,†he said. “These are state-of-the-art machines. We do 3D topographic views first, and then we use the same raw data and make 2D views out of it. That means you don't have to get radiated twice."
The suite also removes the need for the more invasive surgical biopsy and provides a quicker turnaround time for results, Medical Executive Committee President Dr. Alan Sherburne said.
“The anxiety can be awful. The quicker we can determine that there might be a problem, figuring out what needs to be done, is so important. What truly matters is getting the right diagnosis. If you stage things appropriately, it leads to better outcomes," he said. "Thank you to all who brought this technology here. We are very happy to have it."
