Ronald K. Rice of Port Byron, NY, passed away surrounded by love, laughter, and likely a few sarcastic remarks just the way he'd have wanted it. Born in Clifton Springs, he spent his entire life in the Finger Lakes region before finding peace and purpose along the Seneca River, where he made his home, his memories, and a whole lot of noise with his tools.
Ron was a "Jack of All Trades" in name and in spirit a true handyman whose fingers could fix anything and whose heart could warm even the coldest room. In fact, he was still hanging windows days before COPD got the best of him. Gruff on the outside, golden in the middle, Ron had a gift for turning strangers into lifelong friends and friends into family. If you ever met him, chances are he left you with a story or a dent in your drywall. Either way, you remembered him.
Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours. Services will be held privately by his family. If you knew him, you already know he loved you.
In his honor, raise a glass, fix something that's broken, or just share a laugh in his name. If you wish to make a donation in his memory please do so to the Port Byron Food Pantry, Port Byron Ambulance or the COPD Foundation.
